Islamic Personal Law

Advice and representation on marriage, divorce, custody, inheritance, waqf and gifts under Islamic personal law.

Overview

Islamic personal law applies to many families in Nigeria in matters of marriage, children and inheritance. We advise on these questions and represent clients before the Sharia courts.

We advise on marriage and divorce, custody and guardianship of children, the distribution of estates under the rules of inheritance (mirath), wills, gifts (hiba) and endowments (waqf). We also help families structure their affairs so that their wishes and Islamic law are both respected.

We represent clients before the Sharia Court of Appeal of the FCT and the states, and in the Area and Sharia courts, as well as in related matters in the High Court.
